  Interprofession Roles and Missions

The creation of the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Provence (Provence Wine Producing Interprofessional council) in 2004 was the expression of the desire for representation of the entire line of Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) wines, by grouping the three major appellations: Côtes de Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence and Coteaux Varois en Provence, together with the Fédération Régionale du Négoce (the Regional Trading Federation). CIVP therefore covers 95% of the volume of appellation d'origine wines of the Provence region, or 6% of French AOC products, all colours combined. This interprofessional entity now represents 583 producers, private and corporative cellars, and 68 trading companies.

Over the last few years, the "interprofessions" have won twofold recognition, at national and European levels: these organisations, that have now proved their worth, are developing strongly in the French wine-producing regions, as they represent very high-performance management tools.

The CIVP has a double goal :
bringing people together to increase the significance of the line and its actions, Pooling our resources.
making the most of the specifics and personalities of each appellation, by common "Provence" communication.

The missions and actions put under its responsibility involve five activity areas:
  • Economy:
    - knowledge of marketing and the destination markets alike, performance of specific studies,
    - regulation of the economy by measures concerning the commercialised volumes.
  • Research and experiment: production or financing of studies or experiments.
  • Downstream follow up of quality by the analysis and tasting of wines during their consumption.
  • Marketing and communication in France and in the 9 countries to which we export: communication plans, press relations, advertising, special offers.
  • Defence of the profession and the products.
Along with the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Provence, winegrowing and trading in Provence use an essential development tool for today's competitive environment.

 The action programme for 2005

Although it might be difficult to summarise in a few lines the annual action programs of the "interprofession", we can list a few of its main operations:
  • Technical research: the financing of the studies carried out by the Rosé Wine Research and Experiment Centre.
  • Economy :
    - Analysis of the existing studies and ranges, consumption, distribution, export...
    - recording of data relating to the marketing of the three
      appellations, performance of special surveys.
    - Information to the CIVP members.
  • Downstream quality follow-up: On a regular basis, CIVP analyses and tastes samples during actual consumption.
  • Communication in France .
  • Regular press relations with journalists and events in the region.
